Investor Glossary

Quick answerTwenty plain-language definitions covering the botany (red sandalwood, heartwood), the land system (patta land, sale deed, survey number, encumbrance certificate, cent, square yard), the model (managed farmland, drip irrigation, GIS mapping, buyback, venture register), and the NRI layer (FEMA, NRE/NRO accounts, repatriation), plus the single most important term on this site: “illustrative projection”, which means a worked example and never a promise.
Red Sandalwood (Pterocarpus santalinus), ఎర్రచందనం
A slow-growing hardwood endemic to the southern Eastern Ghats of India, valued for its dense red heartwood. Not the same species as fragrant white sandalwood.
Heartwood
The dense, non-living inner wood of a tree. In red sandalwood it is the deep-red, santalin-rich core that carries almost all of the commercial value, and it takes well over a decade to form.
Agroforestry
Growing trees as a crop on farmland. Andhra Pradesh permits red sandalwood cultivation on private land under its agroforestry framework.
Patta land
Privately owned land recorded in government revenue records in the owner’s name, the land category on which our plots are registered.
Sale deed
The registered legal document transferring ownership of a plot to the buyer, executed at the Sub-Registrar office. The primary proof of ownership.
Survey number
The revenue department’s unique identifier for a land parcel. Survey numbers on your deed can be verified against official land records.
Encumbrance Certificate (EC)
An official record showing registered transactions (mortgages, sales, liens) on a property for a period, used to check a plot is free of encumbrances before purchase.
Cent (land unit)
A South Indian land unit equal to 1/100 of an acre, about 48.4 square yards or 40.5 square metres.
Square yard (gajam), గజం
A common plot measurement in Andhra Pradesh; 4,840 square yards make one acre. Our current structure prices one yard at ₹799.
CITES Appendix II
The international treaty listing under which trade in red sandalwood is controlled. Documented plantation timber is the compliant route to export markets.
Managed farmland
A model where the operator runs the full plantation lifecycle, planting, irrigation, maintenance, monitoring, security, while the investor owns the registered plot.
Drip irrigation
Micro-irrigation delivering water directly to each plant’s root zone, efficient in the semi-arid districts where red sandalwood grows.
GIS mapping
Geographic Information System plotting of each plot and tree row, enabling precise monitoring and reporting.
Buyback
An arrangement where the operator assists with, or commits to, purchasing harvested timber. Terms vary by project and are contractual, read them carefully.
Venture register
The company’s record of every project: launch year, acreage, plots, and current status. Part of our Verify Before You Invest checklist.
KYC
Know Your Customer, identity and address verification (PAN, Aadhaar/passport) completed before investment documentation.
FEMA
The Foreign Exchange Management Act, the Indian law governing foreign exchange and NRI investment, including significant restrictions on NRI purchase of agricultural land.
NRE / NRO account
Bank accounts for NRIs: NRE (repatriable, foreign earnings) and NRO (for income earned in India; repatriation subject to limits and documentation).
Repatriation
Transferring funds from India abroad. Sale proceeds and income can generally be repatriated within prescribed limits with tax compliance (e.g. Form 15CA/CB), specifics need professional advice.
Illustrative projection
A worked example of possible outcomes, explicitly not a promise. All return figures on this site are illustrative projections, never guaranteed.
