Is red sandalwood farming legal in Andhra Pradesh?

Harvest, transit and sale of the timber are regulated by the AP Forest Department, and international trade is controlled under CITES Appendix II.
Growing red sandalwood on your own registered (patta) agricultural land is legal in Andhra Pradesh. What is regulated is the later stage, felling, moving and selling the timber, which follows the Forest Department’s permission process in force at harvest time.
Exports are additionally controlled under CITES Appendix II and India’s DGFT policy. Documented, legally cultivated plantation timber is the compliant route to market.
